At Lakes District Maintenance (LDM), our Assistant Controller is key to the success of operations, contributing to the legacy we build within the communities we serve. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in supporting financial reporting and full-cycle accounting. This position ensures accurate and timely reporting throughout the year and provides insightful data analysis to operations, enabling informed strategic decision-making. Additionally, the Assistant Controller will assess and enhance accounting processes and controls, identifying opportunities to mitigate risks and improve the quality and reliability of financial information.

How You’ll Add Value

  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
  • Lead financial reporting and full-cycle accounting for the LDM business
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly and yearly financial reporting packages for corporate consolidation
  • Document processes and controls, provide analysis, and recommend improvements for accounting cycles
  • Coach and mentor other team members.
  • Support general managers, divisional managers, and operations in business decision-making and financial analysis
  • Aid in improving the ERP (Explorer Eclipse) reports and program
  • Offer strategic, implementation, and technical accounting support for special projects
  • Demonstrate strong technical accounting knowledge and apply it effectively
  • Translate operational needs into solid business processes, reports, and analysis
  • Provide timely financial reporting to the Highways Controller and Corporate Controller
  • Address issues identified in accounting practices or internal controls with a solution-driven approach
  • Manage team development and maintain organization across financial systems and ERP processes
  • Perform accountabilities with a focus on ethical decision-making, confidentiality, and discretion
  • Provide value-added business process analysis and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in finance or accounting with professional designation (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA)
  • Strong technical accounting expertise with proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel (Pivot Tables, Lookups)
  • Experience with ERP systems (Explorer Eclipse or similar) and familiarity with SQL is an asset
  • Proven leadership in team building, coaching, and driving process improvements
  • High emotional intelligence for relationship management, conflict resolution, and collaboration
  • Solution-focused, proactive, and adaptable in overcoming challenges and implementing innovations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear and professional interaction
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities with an understanding of organizational impact
  • Effective workload management, prioritization, and independent problem-solving skills
  • Results-driven, maintaining high ethical standards and professionalism in all interactions
