ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN)

The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the T’exelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe.

POSITION

Reporting to the ECE Supervisor.

Employment Type

Temporary, Full-Time (35 hours per week). Term is June 1st, 2025 till June 4th, 2026.

Salary

$23.01-$34.52 depending on experience.

Probation Period

3 months from the date of hire.

Education Required

  • Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Infant Toddler Certification, Special Needs Certification.

Experience Required

  • One to Three years early childhood education.

Overtime Status

  • (Exempt)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Establish a positive and healthy relationship with all families.

2. Develops an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives for day care programs and services aligned with the strategic direction, including program delivery and evaluation.

3 .Ensures to follow the Community Care & Assisted Living Licensing Act (annual inspection), the CCATEC guidelines (quarterly reports), Aboriginal Head Start on Reserve policies & procedures, Childcare Operating Fund (monthly submission) and the WLFN policies and LCDC policies and procedures.

4. Participates with the plans, delivers, supervises, and evaluates developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for children, developing daily schedules including indoor/outdoor, active/quiet, and individual/group activities.

5. Always schedules and maintains adequate staffing/child ratios.

6. Provides quality programming that includes four areas of growth and development and incorporates Shuswap culture.

7. Prepares and ensures individual growth and developmental goals are met for each child.

8. Conducts need assessments, identifies learning gaps, and provides leadership to develop plans and priorities in creating programs to address the learning requirements of the organization and community.

9. Maintains health records and administers First Aid and medication as required; observes and removes potential hazards; reports all incidents of child abuse to the Daycare Supervisor.

10. Creates a safe and healthy environment for employees and children including clean and well-maintained facilities and equipment.

11. Participates in communication strategies for public awareness of programs and events advertises services to attract new participants to the Little Chiefs Day Care programs.

12. Acts as a community liaison and represents the organization at community activities and events.

13. Ensure to adhere to policies & procedures are up to date.

14. Ensure files are kept up to date.

15. Assists in writing basic proposals to secure funding or develop programs.

16. Supports the mission, vision, and values of Williams Lake First Nation.

17.  Contributes to the WLFN’s ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.

18. Be able to engage in outdoor light physical activity for a minimum of 1-3 hours per day, in all weather conditions.

19. Provides positive behavior redirection, if necessary, without labelling the child.
