Job Description

About Visual Capitalist

Visual Capitalist is on a mission to 'Make the World’s Data More Discoverable'. We started out in 2011 with the belief that art, data, and storytelling can be combined to make complex issues more digestible.

Today, we are now a leading media company with over 12M monthly site visitors. On top of that, in Nov. 2023 we launched Voronoi, the world’s first mobile media platform focused on facts, not opinions.

Since then, Voronoi has grown to over 215,000 Monthly Active Users, and holds the title as the 5th most-funded app of all time on Kickstarter.

Our work is seen and shared regularly by senior leaders including Liz Ann Sonders (CIO Charles Schwab), Tim Ferriss (best-selling author/podcaster), Michael Dell (Founder of Dell) and Steve Case (Founder of AOL). In addition, we are regular contributors to the World Economic Forum, Business Insider, ZeroHedge, MarketWatch, and CNBC and our clients include BHP, Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, Gucci, The World Bank, New York Life, MSCI, Teck Resources, and many others.

The Role

We’re looking for an Energy and Climate Content Specialist with experience in creating high-impact reports that have the power to influence energy industry stakeholders.

In addition to subject matter expertise in energy, decarbonization, utilities, and clean energy technologies, experience in research, data analysis, and methodology development will be key to excelling in this role.

This person can be remote in Canada, or choose to work remote or in office in our Vancouver HQ.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and production of the Annual Utility Decarbonization Report and associated deliverables.

  • Leading in the creation of a brand new impact reporting focused report, developing its methodology and leading its production.

  • Working as part of a creative team to create top-tier data visualizations and campaigns for publication on the Visual Capitalist website, the Decarbonization Channel, and Voronoi app, particularly on energy and natural resources topics.

  • Participating actively in Learning Sessions, Designstorms, and campaign debriefs to keep abreast of best practices, while sharing your unique insights with the team.

  • Attending briefings, production meetings, and campaign debriefs to share your insights, learn from missteps, and defend your design decisions.

  • Balancing multiple projects and deadlines with a positive attitude, taking briefs from scamp to final execution on time.

How to Apply

If this excites you, then email your resume, cover letter, and reports you have worked on (or other relevant energy-related content) to chris.dickert@visualcapitalist.com before Monday March 24th. Note that only applications submitted via email will be reviewed.

More on Who We're looking For

You are a fantastic fit for this role if you can identify with these traits and skills:

  • Experience: 3-5 years of professional experience in an energy-focused role; experience in content writing, copywriting, and/or in digital media are definite assets. A combination of relevant experience may also be considered.

  • Subject matter expertise: Knowledge of U.S. power utilities and their role in decarbonization and the clean energy transition, understanding of impact reporting standards and emission scopes; bonus points for working knowledge of U.S. and international climate policy.

  • Software proficiency: Google Office, especially in sheets, and Wordpress; experience with collaboration platforms, such as Figma, Slack, and Monday.com considered an asset.

  • Team player: Strong track-record of working as part of a creative team, including designers and campaign managers / account services.

  • Strategic thinker: You understand that everything you create is part of a whole and in service of a larger goal and have a portfolio full of solutions on a range of projects.

  • Excellent presentation and communications skills: This is a client-facing role, so the ability to persuasively present your creative vision and strategic recommendations to others is a must.

Compensation

The approximate salary range for this position is $60,000-70,000. The actual salary will be based on various factors, including the candidate’s level of skills, experience and education aligned with the needs of the role, budget, and market.

In addition to base salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package:

  • 3 Weeks annual vacation
  • Extended health benefits
  • Additional annual Health Spending Account
  • Flexible work environment
  • Dog-friendly office with free snacks if located in Vancouver
  • An extra Birthday vacation day
  • Summer Friday half-days
  • Happy Hour office drinks and other social events
