Greetings, I'm Max 👋🏻, the Co-founder and CEO of White Rabbit Japan. As our tech-driven journey advances, I'm transitioning from overseeing our talented Engineering Team of six, opening up an exceptional opportunity for an Engineering Manager to spearhead our technical evolution. Reporting directly to me, you'll drive technical excellence and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

As Engineering Manager, you'll ensure efficient software delivery practices and play a key role in mentoring and growing talent. You'll enhance our software delivery performance, stability, and overall product quality by aligning team objectives with organizational goals.

What we do

White Rabbit Japan is working to elevate e-commerce between Japanese sellers and overseas buyers. At the core of this effort are our Japan Rabbit and Blackship products. Japan Rabbit makes buying from Japan hassle-free for thousands of people and businesses worldwide. Blackship makes forwarding packages from Japan faster and easier for businesses and individuals.

A Day in Your Role

• Strategic Alignment: Drive the technical roadmap to ensure alignment with business objectives and company goals.
• Talent Development: Foster a culture of continuous learning, mentorship, and collaboration.
• Process Optimization: Streamline engineering workflows, practices, and tools to increase the team's efficiency, agility, and effectiveness.
• Hands-On Coding: While your primary role is leadership, we value leaders who aren’t afraid to dive into the code and stay technically sharp.
• Recruitment & Onboarding: Proactively identify hiring needs, spearhead recruitment efforts, and ensure smooth onboarding for new engineers, setting them up for success from day one.

Key Responsibilities

• Architectural Leadership: Define and oversee the implementation of engineering best practices, architectural patterns, and sustainability guidelines.
• Champion Engineering Excellence: Elevate the engineering bar, instilling a mindset of high-quality coding, thorough testing, and efficient deployment.
• Collaborate on Vision & Strategy: Partner closely with the CEO and other stakeholders to co-create our technical vision, ensuring it supports and enhances our business strategy.
• Team Growth & Structure: Assess team structure and capabilities, identify gaps, and actively shape the future of the engineering team, aligning it with company growth and evolution.

 

What You Bring to the Table:

• 2+ years in engineering leadership at high-growth startups.
• Proven experience in building and leading remote-first teams.
• Dual lens: Strong technical acumen and the ability to understand issues from a product and business perspective.
• A relentless drive for results, an ownership mindset, and a track record of bringing ideas to life.
