Teach English in Italy: Paid Cultural Exchange Opportunity for Recent Grads (Internship)
ABOUT LANGUAGES CANADA
Languages Canada is a national non-profit representing nearly 200 accredited English and French language education programs across the country. In partnership with the SITE Program in Italy, we’re proud to offer Canadian youth a chance to live and teach English in Italy
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Study Intercultural Training Experience (SITE) is a paid cultural exchange program that places recent graduates in schools across Lombardy as English Teaching Assistants. You’ll help Italian students improve their English while experiencing the language, culture, and lifestyle of Italy first hand.
Duties
Interns will assist Italian teachers as native English-speaking teaching assistants (TAs), primarily in English lessons. They may also support teachers of other subjects (e.g., History, Geography, Science) in delivering simple English-language modules (CLIL). University credit requires prior approval from the intern's home institution.
Hours
TAs will work 12 classroom hours per week and dedicate 13 hours to self-study, projects, student conversations, office hours, excursions, or advisor meetings. Schedules are flexible and arranged with the hosting school advisor.
Advisors
Each intern is assigned an advisor, who will assist with transition, including housing arrangements (e.g., apartment or homestay). Advisor contact details are provided before summer.
Duration
The internship runs from October 1 to May 31. Interns may work at two schools in the same area (one term per school).
Accommodation
Accommodation is not guaranteed. Interns should discuss options with their advisor before arrival.
Compensation
Interns receive a monthly stipend of €700 (~$1,000 CAD).
Health Insurance
Interns must have health insurance. Basic coverage can be purchased upon arrival in Italy.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong motivation, excellent communication skills, flexibility, independence, and a willingness to step out of their comfort zone.
