Bree is a consumer finance platform that brings better, faster, and cheaper financial services to over half the Canadian population who live paycheck to paycheck. We operate in a huge but overlooked market. Our first act is becoming the cheapest and best provider of short-term credit to the 20 million people in Canada who live paycheck to paycheck.

More than 400,000 Canadians have already signed up with Bree and we believe we are just scratching the surface. We are in an exciting place where we have product-market fit, explosive growth, and a clear path to becoming one of the most important fintech companies in Canada.

--- About the Role ---

We’re looking for a Finance Lead to own core financial processes, reporting, and systems at Bree. This is a hands-on role perfect for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys building from scratch, and wants to be the financial backbone of a rapidly growing startup.

You'll work directly with our leadership team to ensure the business is running on sound financial rails — from reconciling cash flows, updating our financial model, and maintaining our budget, to preparing month-end reports for our stakeholders and laying the foundation for future audits.

--- What You’ll Own ---

  • Partner with engineering and product teams to design and implement automated and scalable processes
  • Build robust systems to reconcile highly detailed month-end processes
  • Lead month-end close and reporting to debt investors
  • Maintain and update our financial model with actuals (expenses, revenue, projections)
  • Track and manage the company budget, including line-item-level ownership
  • Liaise with our outsourced bookkeeping firm to ensure monthly bookkeeping is accurate and on time
  • Own monthly financial reconciliation — ensure cash movements match internal database records
  • Own vendor invoice payments
  • Prepare for and eventually manage our audit process with external auditors
  • Build and maintain A/P and A/R aging schedules to track working capital

--- What You’ll Need ---

  • Growth mindset and a love for facing new challenges and wearing new hats
  • 4–8 years of experience in accounting and FP&A (startups or fintech a major plus)
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance ( CPA required )
  • Exceptional analytical skills — you like making numbers tie to the cent
  • Comfortable working with messy data
  • Attention to detail and obsession with financial accuracy
  • Process-oriented mindset — you see manual work and want to automate it
  • Comfort owning cross-functional projects with minimal direction

--- Preferred Qualifications ---

  • SQL experience
  • Prior experience in investment banking, private equity, credit investing or a similar function
  • Experience with audits, lender-related financial reporting
