Job Description

The House of Commons’ Human Resources Services is currently looking to staff the Human Resources Advisor position.

The Human Resources Advisor provides strategic advice, support, and guidance on programs and initiatives that align with the priorities of the Workplace Health and Wellness team. In this role, you will develop, implement, and maintain policies, tools, and training in support of the employer’s obligations in the prevention of harassment, violence, and discrimination.

You will be responsible for providing project and policy support to the team, while contributing to the management of a wide range of operational and administrative matters related to workplace harassment and violence prevention and resolution, including the handling of related issues, notice of occurrences, and awareness strategies for both the House of Commons Administration and Members of Parliament.

Qualifications

Education:

  • University degree from a recognized institution in human resources management or a related field OR an acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience.

Experiences:

  • Knowledge of the provisions of the Canadian Human Rights Act (CHRA), provincial human rights codes, and the statutory areas of discrimination;
  • Knowledge of the provisions the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA);
  • Knowledge of the Canada Labour Code part II pertaining to harassment and violence prevention and resolution processes;
  • Experience in the development and application of methods and tools for the prevention of harassment, violence, and discrimination;
  • Experience in handling sensitive and confidential HR files;
  • Experience in providing human resources (HR) related advisory services in one or more HR disciplines;
  • Experience in producing reference and/or communications materials, procedures, and reports.

Assets:

  • Knowledge in trauma informed techniques
  • Knowledge in interviewing techniques
  • Certified in Third-Party Neutral (TPN) approach
