THE COMPANY

THE POSITION

Overview :

Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Human Resources will champion a customer-centric culture of teamwork and collaboration leading a broad range of day-to-day Human Resources (“HR”) functions to foster employee engagement and productivity and support organizational growth, including talent acquisition, management and retention; compensation and performance management; payroll and benefits administration; employee relations; employee training and development; and health and safety training and compliance.

As a trusted business partner, the Director will provide HR leadership, guidance, advice and support to Boyd Interactive’s management and employees on all HR and people management issues and lead the development and administration of best practice HR policies, procedures, programs and tools aligned with the changing needs of Boyd Interactive’s business and workforce.

The review of workforce requirements in conjunction with department managers and leading cost-effective recruitment strategies to fulfil these requirements, will be an important priority for the new Director of Human Resources during this period of accelerated growth for Boyd Interactive.

The Director of Human Resources will be based at Boyd Interactive’s offices located in North York, Ontario, and will work closely with Boyd Gaming on corporate HR matters related to Boyd Interactive employees in US and Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Management Team, develop HR plans and workforce requirements aligned with business goals and strategy.
  • Develop recruiting strategies to fulfill staffing requirements. Lead recruitment efforts, including candidate sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding, in partnership with managers.
  • Provide leadership in the development, implementation, enhancement and communication of all core HR programs, policies, practices, code of conduct, ethical standards and handbooks reflecting industry leading best practices. Ensure employee compliance and awareness.
  • Lead talent management initiatives including the development of compensation structures, the maintenance and communication of benefits plans, wage increases, promotions, disciplinary actions, terminations and offboarding in compliance with company policies.
  • Offer thought leadership regarding organizational and people-related strategy and execution with the goal of organizational effectiveness and employee satisfaction.
  • Provide timely information on HR issues and ensure the company complies with relevant employment laws and regulations.
  • Lead core HR processes across the different offices (performance evaluation, compensation cycle, quarterly employee functions, employee learning and development, conflict management, onboarding/offboarding, internal control audit).
  • Analyze and interpret various types of employee-related data (e.g., compensation, turnover rate, RRSP/401(k), health and other benefits market comparison, employment laws both in the US and Canada) to provide proactive solutions and guide decision making.
  • Lead the development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of employee recognition and engagement initiatives to promote high levels of employee morale, motivation and performance to ensure a healthy and productive work environment leading to organizational excellence.
  • Working closely with departmental managers, identify areas of development and growth for employees, providing training, programs and resources as needed, including leadership training for managers.
  • Develop methods to recognize employee performance, including conducting an employee performance evaluation process in conjunction with departmental managers and ensuring employees have clear goals and expectations and are provided with continuous performance feedback.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, confidential advice, counselling and support to managers and employees on key workplace matters such as performance management, conflict management, employee relations, and employee development.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and resolve any conflicts that arise among employees.
  • Act as a key member of the Health and Safety Committee, promote occupational health and safety awareness, and ensure compliance with regulations and Health & Safety policies and procedures throughout the organization.
  • Oversee payroll and benefits administration and liaise with third-party benefits and payroll service providers as needed.
  • Stay current with industry leading trends, best practices, employment laws and legislation.

THE CANDIDATE

Education & Certification/License Credentials

  • University degree or college diploma in Psychology, Human Resources Management, Business Administration or other related fields.
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP, CPHR, CHRL).

Functional Competencies – Skills, Knowledge, & Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive Human Resources management experience ideally gained within a multinational, high growth tech company environment.
  • Broad functional human resources management experience including employee recruitment and talent management; employee relations; employee training and development; compensation and performance management; payroll and benefits administration.
  • Proven success partnering with business leaders and contributing to the achievement of company goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish best practices Human Resources policies, procedures, programs, tools and systems that are effective in meeting the needs of the business.
  • Superior written and verbal communication, listening and presentation skills to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of an organization.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, negotiating and influencing skills to achieve win-win solutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork with proven success inspiring teams to high levels of performance and engagement.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Canadian and Ontario employment, US employment and state regulations, labor, human rights and privacy laws and regulations and best practices in administration and compliance.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Previous experience working with Workday Human Resources Information System and familiarity with major outsourced payroll providers (Ceridian, ADP).
