Ernest is currently in search of an HR Payroll Specialist for our Corporate office located in the city of Commerce, CA. This is a full-time position that offers a competitive pay rate, benefits, and a fantastic company culture.
The Payroll Specialist will ensure accurate processing and recording of the company’s bi-weekly, multi-state payroll, provide timely and accurate financial information, and participate in detailed reporting processes for payroll reconciliation.
Essential Functions:
- Performs daily payroll department operations; verification of timecard and earning accuracy.
- Ensure proper payment of wages and salaries by using Paycom’s payroll system to correctly process earnings and reported hours worked. While utilizing paid leave and holiday pay to ensure accuracy of accrued compensatory time and precisely compute overtime while meeting deadlines.
- Generates check registers of payroll processed showing each payee, hours worked, wages paid, associated withholdings for 401K, benefits, and taxes withheld.
- Maintains payroll records/accounts and prepares weekly reports related to payroll in a timely manner.
- Manages workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
- Reconciles payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports.
- Submits correct garnishment calculations and compliance.
- Executes time and attendance processing, while communicating with leadership to ensure accuracy.
- Processes timely quarter-end/year-end reporting (W-2, W-2c, Form 941, etc.)
- Audits Year-End data across all company locations prior to final approval/printing.
- Develops ad-hoc financial and operational reporting as needed.
- Processes manual checks for separations, retro pay, bonuses, and as needed.
- Promptly responds to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues or concerns.
- Conducts semi-annual payroll and data audits.
- Reviews Employee Change Forms to verify correct data in HRIS System, calculate expected pay changes as needed.
- Coordinates with Benefit Specialist/Human Resources for proper benefit and deduction set-up.
- Verifies and process unused vacation payout at separations.
- Remains competent and current through self-directed reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development seminars, training and/or courses.
Work Environment
- The employee regularly works in an office setting. Non remote.
Physical Demands:
- In this role, you’ll be expected to sit, stand, talk, and listen regularly. There may also be occasional lifting of office supplies and products, up to 10 pounds.
Position Type/Work Hours:
- This is a full-time position. The standard operating hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Required Education and Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years payroll experience
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

- Payroll laws and regulations, Federal and State(s)
- Proficient in Excel; VLOOKUP’s & pivot tables
Preferred Education And Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is desired but relevant experience will also be considered
- Innovation to create seamless processes in payroll efficiency
- Familiarity with GL posting & understanding payroll impact on financials
