WHERE WE AND OUR PROJECTS ARE LOCATED

Fortitude Construction operates within Ontario, Canada. Our office is located in downtown Whitby. Our projects can be found throughout the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area and surrounding areas including but not limited too; Kingston, Ottawa, London, Kitchener, Niagara Region, Simcoe County.

THE ROLE – PROJECT MANAGER-ESTIMATOR

The Project Manager-Estimator will be responsible for seeing a project through from tender to award to construction and close out. They will manage all estimating work-flows such as: preparing and reviewing the RFPs, Tender Invitations, preparing RFQs and bid packages, analyzing and interpreting construction drawings and specifications to ensure accurate estimates; tender site visits; communicating with the clients & consultants during the pursuit; and submitting estimates and proposals for contract awards. They will perform quantity take-offs where required for internal direct supplied materials or equipment and self-performed work.

Prior to proposal submission, they will liaise with senior management to ensure alignment with submissions to client in the interest of the company and project.

Upon contract award, they will liaise with along with senior management to assign the site supervisor and start-up the project successfully.

The Project Manager- Estimator will be responsible for other month-to-month, quarterly and annual tasks such as but not limited too: conversion rate reports per sector, trade and supplier vendor development & vendor list updates, procurement development, project budget and estimate close-out debriefs, price database maintenance, pipeline review with business development staff and resource allocation, etc.

The Project Manager- Estimator will be responsible for bi-weekly project budget reporting, submittal control, change control, RFI control, and overseeing the entire project along with support from the site supervisor and senior management where necessary.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience working as an Project manager and at least 2 years experience as an Estimator for a General Contractor in the Commercial Interiors, Institutional, and or Mixed-use sector within Ontario, Canada. Experience working on site as a coordinator or similar position would be an asset.

The ideal candidate must also be able to demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tenders and estimates along with multiple projects which run concurrently, while rotating bidders lists and trade assignments.

This role will require a hybrid work model of rotating and travelling between project sites, holding meetings with project teams (site or office), work from office when required, work from home only where applicable for time management.

Candidates must have:

  • Demonstrates excellent verbal, written and technical communication with all project stakeholders.
  • Ability to prepare proposals for submission to clients and project contract negotiations
  • Identify and select highly qualified subcontractors and solicit competitive pricing for tenders.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of tender drawings. Comment on the design, scheduling, possible cost savings and potential construction problems.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive RFI list along with a log of critical and important communications between client-consultant and our company.
  • Attend on-site reviews/investigations, tender walk-throughs, site visits
  • Attend trade shows, industry conferences in the interest of staying up-to-date with trends, tech and vendor partners.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate estimates for material, labour, equipment, subcontracts and construction facilities.
  • Develop and review subcontractor scope of work and accept, review, and analyze contractor quotes for the best value.
  • Maintain good relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Maintain Master Tender List and ensure up-to-date trade information, along with consistently in search for new trades to add.
  • Coordinate and present bids in a timely and organized manner to management.
  • Prepare project bid status reports and ensure compliance with all specifications and Contract Statements of Work and Bid Invitations. With an understanding and contractual terms and conditions

  • Excellent with leveraging resources to find efficiencies, interpreting construction drawings and specs
  • Demonstrates a extensive professional network in the construction industry and knowledge of vendors, distributors, materials, methods, techniques, code compliance etc.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of project management experience and minimum 3 years of estimating experience in construction management/general contracting/ design-build, including overseeing project estimates in the ICI sector ranging from commercial interiors, interior alterations, ground up construction, etc.
  • Preferrably any candidates PM and Estimating experience have been concurrent.
  • Experience in using estimating & project management software will be an asset – Square Space and Bluebeam are used in-house.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and techniques
  • Knowledge of landlord – tenant lease agreements, lease schedules, building-property management contractor manuals and guidelines, base-building trade requirements.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and estimating software
  • Construction specific - Industry certifications, Trade qualifications, 3-yr diploma, or 4-yr degree will be an asset and will be highly regarded by the hiring team.
