Job Description

We are seeking a Project Planning Specialist to support large-scale industrial and infrastructure projects, ranging in value from $200M to over $1B . This role plays a key part in developing, maintaining, and optimizing project schedules to ensure seamless execution from initial studies through construction.

The position will initially be office-based or remote , supporting planning efforts during early project phases. However, once projects move into construction , this role will transition to an on-site position to monitor progress firsthand.

Working closely with project controls teams, contractors, and various stakeholders, the Project Planning Specialist will apply best-in-class scheduling and forecasting methods to track progress, mitigate risks, and keep projects on schedule. This is a hands-on role that requires strong expertise in Primavera P6 and a deep understanding of project management principles, cost control, and earned value measurement systems .

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6 , ensuring alignment across multiple teams.
  • Monitor project progress, track key milestones, and provide forecasting insights to mitigate schedule risks.
  • Perform quality reviews on contractor and third-party schedules, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring integration into the overall master schedule.
  • Support project reporting by preparing status updates, presentations, and schedule analysis reports.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to align planning efforts with real-time project execution.
  • Conduct schedule audits on service providers to ensure adherence to project standards.
  • Assist with resource allocation and progress measurement throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work closely with regulatory bodies and internal teams to align planning efforts with environmental and permitting requirements.
  • Provide input into project execution plans, scope definition, and overall project controls strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with project planning best practices and industry standards.

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of experience in project planning and scheduling, preferably within industrial, infrastructure, or mining projects .
  • At least 3 years of field experience , with exposure to site-based project execution .
  • Experience working in an Owner’s role is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of critical path method (CPM) scheduling , project controls, and cost management.
  • Hands-on expertise in Primavera P6 and familiarity with earned value measurement systems.
  • Proven ability to manage complex schedules, integrate subcontractor plans, and track progress effectively.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work across multiple teams.
  • Experience with regulatory requirements and permitting processes is a plus.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
