Job Description

The Role:

BHER is hiring a Research Associate to support our growing qualitative research portfolio, including a national multi-year initiative focused on improving employment outcomes for people with disabilities and helping employers recognize diverse talent.

We’re looking for someone with a strong background in and passion for carrying out mixed methods research and translating the findings into actionable insights. While the Research Associate may work across BHER’s research portfolio, expertise in skills development frameworks, disability research, accessibility, and inclusive design is a must-have for this role.

The Research Associate will work closely with the Research Manager and Research Coordinator to support data collection, analysis, and day-to-day research activities. The ideal candidate is organized, collaborative, and detail-oriented, with strong communication, judgement, research, and critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities:

Research Support

  • Assist in conducting literature reviews, scans, and environmental analyses.
  • Support the development and formatting of research tools, including question guides and workshop materials.
  • Help coordinate and attend interviews, focus groups, and co-design sessions (virtual or in person).
  • Take notes, transcribe key insights, and ensure all documentation is stored and organized appropriately.

Data Collection + Documentation

  • Support participant engagement through email follow-up, data tracking, and feedback collection.
  • Help prepare data summaries, reports, and internal memos.
  • Maintain clear and consistent records for ethics, accessibility, and internal review.

Team + Project Support

  • Collaborate with the Research Manager and Research Coordinator on task tracking and timelines.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing and collaborative editing of project materials.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to an inclusive and positive team environment.

Qualifications:

Must-Haves

  • A degree or diploma in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, education, disability studies, public policy).
  • 3-5 years experience in research, evaluation, or community-based projects (including co-op or academic research experience).
  • Experience with qualitative methods (interviews, focus groups, literature reviews).
  • Experience with accessibility-focused work or lived experience with disability.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and comfort working with documents and data.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and follow through on timelines.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Bilingualism (English/French).

What We Offer:

  • An annual salary of $58,240 – $74,256 depending on experience
  • A comprehensive benefits package
  • Flexible remote work from anywhere in Canada
  • Generous paid time off policy
  • A mission-driven, collaborative team that values authenticity and impact

How to Apply: Please send your resume and a brief cover letter to careers@bher.ca. Applications are assessed as they are received. The posting will remain open until the position is filled.

BHER is committed to having an inclusive workplace with equitable access to employment, development, and advancement opportunities for current and future employees. We encourage applications from all backgrounds and communities. Don’t meet every requirement? We still want to hear from you. We believe great candidates come from diverse paths. Applicants must reside in Canada.
