WE ARE an engineering company specializing in the design and construction of test facilities for the automotive and aerospace industries. Aiolos Engineering has designed wind tunnels and test facilities for a world wide client base including: Ferrari, General Motors, Hyundai, Korean Agency for Defence Development, Indian Space Research Organization, Ford UK, Volvo, National Research Council of Canada, Scania, BMW, Daimler and NASA. In the automotive sector, our climatic wind tunnels are used in the development cycle for thermodynamic testing of subsystems in production vehicles. Our aero-acoustic wind tunnels are used for aerodynamic investigations and noise studies in the automotive development process. The aeronautical industry uses the wind tunnels we design to investigate aircraft design issues.

Our design and working tools include AutoCAD, Pro Engineer Creo, MathCad and MicroSoft Office Suite.

THERMAL SYSTEMS ENGINEER

We are looking for a Thermal Systems Engineer (cooling and heating systems) to compliment and learn from our senior engineers. The candidate must have a solid technical background and some practical experience in Thermal Systems Engineering and have a strong sense of ownership for their work – accepting tasks and time constraints and working within them to complete the task on time with little supervision. 

Job entails:

• Thermal Systems design – This position will be responsible for the end-to-end design of the refrigeration and other heat transfer systems in the facilities we design. Components include heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, valves, piping systems, air handling systems, and instrumentation.
• Cross-discipline Interfacing – During the project design phases, this position is expected to work with the Aerodynamicists, Mechanical Engineers and Controls Engineers to ensure facility design and interfaces are properly defined.
• Authoring/co-authoring technical drawings – AutoCAD is used for our thermal systems drawings.
• Authoring/co-authoring technical specifications – Define the specification of thermal systems for projects (including sub-systems and complete heating / cooling system and air handling systems installation specifications) and advise others on specifications relating to other process equipment (such as the heat exchanger, fan, air handling units, rain/snow/solar simulation, etc).
• Installation and startup on-site – Thermal systems detail design and installation is generally subcontracted locally according to Aiolos’ cooling / heating system specifications and drawings. This position will include overseeing thermal systems installation and start-up and working with other subcontractors at site, particularly when thermal systems interfacing is required. The candidate must have the ability to work independently at site – acting directly as an Aiolos point of contact for the subcontractor.

REQUIRED

• Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Process Engineering
• Eligible candidate for license as a Professional Engineer
• 5-10 years experience
• Familiarity with large refrigeration systems and thermal process design. This would ideally include some experience with design of large dynamic response cooling systems (i.e. up to 10 MW)
• Some understanding of process controls and electrics
• Experience with contractors, system installation and start-up
• Experience working with multi-discipline project teams, other engineers and designers
• Good English writing skills
• Self starter

PREFERRED

• Proven on-site installation and start-up supervision experience
• AutoCAD
