SCOPE:

The Youth Cultural Intervention Worker is responsible to support youth one-on-one to provide immediate response to youth involved with or transitioning out of justice systems. The Youth Cultural Intervention Worker will service the Thunder Bay Region to ensure that Indigenous youth build capacity, connection, identity, and self-esteem to reinforce safety, stabilization, and positive outcomes through land-based practices and Indigenous culture.

The Youth Cultural Intervention Worker will work with youth between the ages of 12 and 17 who are involved with the justice system, police, probation, and parole systems. The Youth Cultural Intervention Worker will meet with youth through person-to-person, voice-to-voice, email, social media, and other interactions which may occur in the community or neighborhood locations

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum college diploma in Social Services, minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in social services.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in the justice systems sector.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture, ceremony, cultural programming, and traditions
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills and an ability to follow through on assigned duties independently with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage time effectively.
  • Highly motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Capacity to solve problems and to see different perspectives.
  • Knowledge of and connection to service agencies in the location of service delivery
  • Ability to network with other community agencies, services, and organizations.
  • Knowledge and working of Not-For Profit Organizations.
  • Excellent written and oral communications, with emphasis on keen listening and ability to effectively interpret verbal communications and needs of prospective Community Members.
  • Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction and be able to improve performance through management feedback.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office; competency working with other databases.
  • Experience working with Indigenous Peoples, knowledge of Indigenous cultures and traditions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current issues facing Indigenous Women and their families.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Software, internet, and general office equipment.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.
  • Valid G Class Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance.
  • Current valid vulnerable sector criminal records check. Valid 1st Aid/CPR.
  • A cellular phone and internet access is required within this position.
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible working from home arrangement if required. This may include a combination of virtual remote work in your home and in office arrangements. This will be based on operational needs and will be determined by the ONWA.
  • Ability/willingness to travel and to work flexible hours.
  • ONWA is committed on implementing measures to protect its community members, staff, and other stakeholders from COVID-19. As a result, ONWA has implemented a mandatory vaccination policy. Exemptions will be made for those with a valid medical exemption; proof of the exemption will be required.

The full salary range for this role is $49,500 – $60,778. ONWA conducts annual performance reviews, and employees may be eligible for salary adjustments based on performance outcomes and available funding.
