One of Medix's healthcare clients is hiring for a remote Cisco VoIP Engineer. It is a 12+ month contract that could be extended.
Position Info - Day to day responsibilities/understanding of the project this person is being hired on to do
VoIP System Design and Configuration:
- Design and implement Cisco VoIP solutions to integrate with the Epic system, ensuring the system meets the communication needs of healthcare providers, staff, and departments.
- Configure Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Unity Connection, Cisco Call Manager, and Cisco IP Phones for the Epic environment.
- Develop and implement voice routing strategies, call flows, and other necessary configurations to ensure a seamless user experience.
Epic System Integration:
- Work closely with the Epic implementation team to integrate the Cisco VoIP system with Epic's communication modules, ensuring efficient voice communication within the Epic EHR system.
- Customize and optimize VoIP workflows within Epic, including configuring automatic call distribution (ACD), interactive voice response (IVR), and call center functionalities.
- Assist in integrating Cisco Unified Contact Center Express (UCCX), Cisco Packaged Contact Center Enterprise, Cisco Voice Gateways, Cisco Unified Border Elements (CUBE), traditional telephony services, and any other contact center solutions with Epic to support patient engagement and call routing.
Testing and Quality Assurance:
- Conduct rigorous testing of the VoIP system and integration with Epic to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and compliance with healthcare communication standards.
- Validate voice quality, call routing, voicemail integration, and any Epic-specific communication features like physician paging, patient updates, and alerts.
- Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues between the VoIP system and Epic.
Troubleshooting and Support:
- Provide second-tier support for troubleshooting VoIP-related issues, addressing problems like call quality, connectivity, and integration with Epic’s systems.
- Monitor the VoIP network for performance and resolve issues related to voice traffic, call drops, or delays.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and configuration issues related to the Cisco VoIP infrastructure.
System Optimization and Upgrades:
- Collaborate with other IT teams to plan and execute scheduled system updates, patches, and performance optimizations for the Cisco VoIP infrastructure.
- Continuously improve and optimize the Cisco VoIP environment based on feedback and performance metrics from users, ensuring the system scales effectively with growing organizational needs.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Create and maintain detailed documentation for Cisco VoIP system configurations, Epic integration processes, and troubleshooting procedures
- Ensure all VoIP solutions adhere to organizational IT security and compliance standards, including HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.
- Participate in security assessments and ensure that the VoIP system complies with healthcare privacy and security requirements.
Training and Knowledge Transfer:
- Provide training to internal IT staff and healthcare staff on VoIP system usage, troubleshooting, and best practices.
- Mentor junior team members and assist in the development of their skills in VoIP technologies.
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with Epic consultants, internal IT teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to ensure the successful deployment and integration of the VoIP system.
- Participate in meetings and planning sessions to define requirements, timelines, and resources needed for the Epic VoIP implementation.
Requirements:
- At least 5 years of experience in Cisco VoIP system administration, configuration, and troubleshooting (Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Unity Connection, etc.).
- Avaya experience
- Previous experience with Epic EHR integration and VoIP systems is highly preferred.
- Experience working in a healthcare IT environment is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Cisco VoIP technologies, including Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Call Manager, Cisco Unity Connection, and IP Phones.
- Expertise in SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), H.323, MGCP, and other VoIP protocols.
- Familiarity with VoIP-related tools and solutions such as Cisco Jabber, Cisco WebEx, and Cisco Contact Center solutions (UCCX).
- Understanding of networking concepts including IP addressing, routing, VLANs, QoS (Quality of Service), and security protocols for VoIP networks.
- Ability to configure and troubleshoot Cisco Call Center systems and IVR solutions.
- Knowledge of healthcare-specific telephony requirements and Epic systems is a significant advantage.
Certifications:
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Collaboration or higher-level certification preferred.
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Collaboration or similar advanced certification is a plus.
