Job Description

About Pine

Pine is transforming the home financing experience for Canadians by leveraging technology and a customer-first approach. With strong financial backing and recognition as one of Canada’s top startups, we are on a mission to simplify the mortgage process and drive innovation in the industry.

One commonality is the high energy and dedication our team brings to work every day. We are fun, collaborative, easy-going (did we mention fun?) and passionate about innovating the home financing process across Canada.

We strive to have a culture where everyone shares ideas and gives input, takes ownership, feels valued, and takes pride in their work. We work hard and play hard!

About the Team

As the Head of Design, you will report to the CEO and lead Pine’s growing design team. You will work closely with product managers, engineers, and other key stakeholders to develop and execute a strong design strategy that enhances our user experience across all customer-facing and internal tools.

You will be responsible for fostering a user-centric design culture, mentoring and managing designers, and shaping Pine’s visual and interaction design language to align with our business goals and customer needs.

About the Role

We are hiring a Head of Design to lead and scale Pine’s design function! In this role, you will be instrumental in defining our design vision, managing and mentoring a team of designers, and driving design excellence across our digital mortgage application and internal mortgage advisor and underwriting tools.

We have big plans at Pine, and this is your chance to make an impact and shape the future of home financing in a meaningful way.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

  • Define and execute Pine’s design vision, strategy, and best practices across all digital products.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of designers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish scalable design processes, ensuring consistency and efficiency across projects.
  • Conduct and oversee user research to identify opportunities to improve our customer experience.
  • Partner with product managers and engineers to define problems, develop solutions, and ensure a seamless user experience.
  • Create and refine wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs using Figma and our established design system.
  • Advocate for design thinking and user-centered methodologies within the organization.
  • Balance user, business, and technical constraints to create delightful, effective, and scalable experiences.
  • Push the boundaries of design in an antiquated industry and help redefine home financing for Canadians.

We’re excited about you because you have…

  • 7+ years of experience in UX/UI, product design, or interaction design, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience leading and mentoring design teams in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Strong ability to define and drive a design strategy aligned with business objectives.
  • A deep understanding of user experience, human factors, and interaction design principles.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including product management and engineering.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proven ability to translate complex ideas into intuitive and accessible user experiences.
  • Proficiency in Figma and other modern design tools.
  • A self-starter mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities and drive projects forward.

Prior to applying, please note that you will need…

  • A portfolio showcasing your design leadership, strategic thinking, and end-to-end product design process.

Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

We’re committed to growing and empowering a more inclusive community within our company. That’s why we hire and cultivate diverse teams of people from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We believe that true innovation happens when everyone has a seat at the table.

If you need any accommodations, please inform your recruitment contact upon initial connection.
