Job Description

McEwen Mining Inc. has four producing mines, located in Nevada, Ontario, Mexico, and Argentina, and also has exposure to copper through its subsidiary McEwen Copper, owner of the large Los Azules copper deposit in Argentina. Our goal is to further develop into a strong and profitable gold and silver producer, focused on the Americas. In order to do that, we need great talent. Lead Development Miner

Reporting to the Underground Mine Supervisor, the Lead Development Miner is responsible for the efficient completion of day-to-day mining activities and the training and mentoring of the development crew and co-workers with you. He or she must be a committed team player with a strong knowledge and dedication to safety, production methods and equipment care. Other duties may include equipment maintenance, cleaning and assisting with the training and mentorship of other miners. Other duties will be assigned as necessary.

The list of duties and responsibilities below is not exclusive or exhaustive, and the employee will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the position. All employees are required to be professional, cooperative, and flexible in line with the requirements of the position.

Operational / Technical Execution:

  • Drill and blast rounds by operating a Jumbo Driller or Jackleg drill machine.
  • Muck out underground materials by operating a Load Haul Dump machine.
  • Operate jackleg, stoper, or Mclean bolter to drill blasting holes in working face and install ground support.
  • Identify different types of underground explosives.
  • Install ground support with rebar, split sets, cable bolts, swellex and screens.
  • Mount screen or mesh in underground headings with rebar or bolting methods with ground support.
  • Operate and work off a scissor lift deck and or muck pile.
  • Install air ventilation and water systems in production areas.
  • Install services for the mining processes.
  • Other duties that may arise from time to time.

General Administration and Controls:

  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping in work areas.
  • Understand and apply safe work practices.
  • Follow all company policies and standards.
  • Other duties that may arise from time to time.

Qualifications and Skills Requirement:

  • L Must be authorized to work in Canada.
  • Valid driver’s license and a reliable means of transportation.
  • Ability to work safely, efficiently, and always maintain a safety conscious mentality within the Mine environment.
  • Good safety knowledge and understanding with the ability to recognize hazards and situations that may cause problems.
  • Highly motivated to learn/train and become part of the McEwen Mine team supporting all the processes with professionalism.
  • 5 years’ work experience as a Jumbo operator
  • 5-7 years’ work experience in an underground mine environment
  • Must have underground common core.
  • Willing to work shift work.
  • Must be physically fit and capable of performing physical labor such as lifting.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
