Position: Paid On-Call Firefighter
The Lake Country Fire Department is currently recruiting Paid On-Call Firefighters to join its team. This role offers an opportunity to serve the community while gaining valuable training and experience in fire and emergency services.

Key Responsibilities
Combat, extinguish, and prevent fires while protecting lives and property.
Respond to various emergencies, including medical calls, motor vehicle accidents, fire alarms, and public assist calls.
Participate in training sessions, drills, and practice nights.
Support fire prevention, FireSmart programs, and public education initiatives.
Record and dispatch emergency calls and manage apparatus and equipment.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Driver's License: Valid British Columbia Class 5 license with no more than six (6) points or prohibitions in the past three years.
Residency: Must reside or work within the District of Lake Country or within 8 kilometers of one of the three response districts.
Medical Assessment: Completion of NFPA 1582 Candidate Medical Assessment or equivalent.
Criminal Record Check: Ability to pass a vulnerable sector check as per British Columbia EMA Licensing Board standards.
Physical Fitness: Capable of performing heavy and strenuous tasks under adverse conditions.
Assessments: Ability to pass a written assessment, physical job-related test, and panel interview.
Other Skills: Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Preferred Experience and Certifications
NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I and II certification (IFSAC or Pro Board certified).
EMA First Responder with Schedule 2 endorsements.
Experience in municipal firefighting and wildland urban interface operations.
Work Environment
Reporting to the Fire Chief or designate, work will be based out of the closest fire station or as assigned.
Regular participation in scheduled practice nights and community events.
Exposure to hazardous substances, challenging working conditions, and inclement weather during emergency responses.
On-call availability 24/7 for emergencies.

Ability to learn a wide variety of firefighting duties and techniques.
Understanding of risk management and safety practices.
Strong ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Proficiency in operating motor vehicles and firefighting equipment.
Effective communication and ability to maintain positive working relationships.
