Senior Electrical Cable and Optics Engineer

Our Electrical Engineering team puts the spark into the full hardware development lifecycle, from concept to production. It takes experts in system architecture definition, design, analysis, prototyping, sourcing & the debugging and validation of layouts or routes to deliver state-of-the-art products for a changing world. We work closely with designers, cross-functional teams within Dell Technologies and suppliers to make sure electronic designs meet a range of requirements, including schedule, feature set, functionality and quality, as well as industry standards.

What you’ll achieve  

 
As a member of the Network Hardware Engineering team, you will be responsible for the verification and qualification of complex copper cables and optical fiber transceiver modules in various systems, primarily in the 10 Gbit/s – 1600 Gbit/s range. This role requires collaboration with xfunctional Hardware and Software Engineering teams, including Platform, Solutions, COMMs, Network Software, etc., on all matters related to datacenter and GenAI-focused network compute, storage and switch connectivity using optical and copper technologies. 

  You will:  

  • Design, develop, modify and evaluate electronic parts, components and integrated circuitry for electronic equipment and other hardware systems
  • Analyze equipment and test plan requirements to perform verification; conduct experimental tests and evaluates results
  • Work with lead engineer or architect to select components based on analysis of specifications, cost, continuity of supply and reliability 
  • Review original design manufacturer and sub-tier vendor capability to support product development and production
  • Ensure the manufacturability, reliability, serviceability and integration of designs with the rest of product functions including mechanical and software

Essential Requirements  

  • 3+ years of experience in Fiber Optic Communication and Hardware Product Development
  • Solid understanding of high-speed pluggable transceiver form-factors and MSAs, SFP+/QSFP+/QSFP-DD/OSFP connectors, cages and their mechanical and thermal design
  • Good understanding of various types of electrical simulation tools
  • Highly self-motivated with a strong multi-disciplinary background 
  • Good communication and documentation skills 

Desirable Requirements  

  • BS, Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge of existing industry players in cables and optics field, Broadcom SDK would be a major plus


Compensation: Dell is committed to Fair and Equitable compensation practices. The Base Salary Range for this role in is $123,250 to $159,500.
