It is based in downtown Chicago and focuses on Business & Corporate Law, Trusts & Estates, Taxation, Securities, Real Estate, Non-profits and Sports & Entertainment Law. It serves primarily affluent families, family offices, family foundations and privately held companies. Handler Law, LLP is an internationally recognized firm based in downtown Chicago that focuses on Business & Corporate Law, Private Client Trusts & Estates and Taxation serving primarily affluent families, family offices and privately held companies. Currently we are expanding and due to our growth, we are seeking to hire an experienced, motivated, Legal Trust & Estates Assoicate to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong fundamental skills within the trusts and estates practice area, including gift and estate tax planning. Candidates should possess superior communication, drafting, writing, and research skills and excellent analytical and critical-thinking skills.

PRIOR LAW FIRM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Detail – oriented; strong work organization skills, ability to work and problem solve independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – specifically MS Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of professionalism; ability to act with discretion and tact in all situations
  • Ability to maintain organized electronic and paper records and produce reports in a timely and desirable manner
  • Ability to manage numerous projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to be flexible and work more than 46 hours in one week per month or during peak periods

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compiling, organizing and indexing documentary evidence
  • Filing documents with state and federal courts in paper or electronic format
  • Basic drafting and preparation of legal documents including wills, contracts, real estate closing statements, subpoenas, and other legal documents
  • Coordinate and manage client matters and projects
  • Proofread all documents and check for appropriate formatting, spelling and grammatical errors
  • Research facts, laws, and public records as directed
  • Data and file management, calendar management support
  • Transaction and tax support
  • Perform other duties and special projects as requested; may involve handling confidential and sensitive material for celebrity, professional athlete and ultra-high net worth clients
  • Additional assignments and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business or finance or tax
  • JD
  • Must have minimum 7 years of experience in similar type of legal industry law firm
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, research, written and oral communication skills
  • Self-starter, detail-oriented, with ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite applications and time entry software (SmokeBall experience a plus)

Requirements:

Education: JD; candidates with business, financial or tax qualifications (LL.M., CFP, CPA, MBA, MST) and Law Review or Business Law Journal experience preferred.
