Job Description

Design Coordinator:

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Design Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the production, by 3rd party consultants, of design drawings and renderings, floor plans, and construction drawings/details as well as coordinating landlord approval, permits, and construction completion documents. As an integral member of the Development & Construction team, the Design Coordinator will be required to interface with internal and external partners such as Operations, Franchisor’ design team, General Contractors, Architects, Engineers, Building Departments, and other vendors throughout the various stages of the project.

SCOPE AND MAGNITUDE:

Soul Restaurants has 224 Restaurants spread all over Canada with the majority being in Ontario. The Design Coordinator will have accountability for supporting the brand re-image process for Soul Restaurants and will work with Souls internal team to co-ordinate works required.

POSITION FUNCTIONS:

Design Coordinator (remodeling of existing units and building new units)

• Coordinate the completion of Architectural, Mechanical/Electrical, and Structural drawings by third party consultants, ensuring the drawings are complete and on time

• Obtain landlord approval of the drawings and negotiate, if necessary, any revisions to the drawings to obtain approval. If necessary, prepare renderings, sample boards and/or presentation boards to be used for approval purposes

• Liaise with franchisor design and construction teams and the Soul Brand Operations leadership teams to validate and align on floor plans, exterior elevations and project scopes.

• Partner with cross functional internal partners as required (Operations, Real Estate, Construction) to ensure overall engagement and alignment in each project.

• Coordinate building permit applications with third party consultants to ensure permits are received in a timely manner

• Support all phases of construction including due diligence, schedule and budget development, construction planning and design; supports adherences to approved project budgets and schedules.

• Provide timely and effective engagement and communication with all stakeholders on each project.

• Identify opportunities to optimise and improve time and cost efficiency of the design/construction process and implement through process reviews.

• Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory (Government) and brand (Franchisor) construction requirements.

Specialised or Technical Knowledge/Skills

Education

• An undergraduate degree in a 3 or 4 year post-secondary Interior Design/ Architecture Program or other post-secondary education with professional degree from an accredited School of Interior Design/ Architecture

• 3 to 4 years’ of work experience in Interior Design or Architecture with a retail and food/restaurant focus,

Experience

• At least 2 years hands on design experience in the retail/restaurant industry, with a proven track record of new build and/or major alteration works, ideally in a restaurant or multi-unit retail environment.

• Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, Sketchup, Photoshop, The National Building Code, and AODA

• Ability to read and understand comprehensive and fully developed construction drawing sets (i.e.: architectural mechanical and electrical plans) and possess a solid knowledge of construction detailing

• Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills

• Ability to influence, effectively negotiate and align stakeholders across multiple business functions

• Enjoys collaborating within a team environment and must have a strong and proven drive for results.

• Process oriented with sound planning and controlling skills.

• Flexibility to travel and hold a valid Driver’s License
